In the meeting of juggernauts, Manchester City and Chelsea didn’t exactly play out a classic but the result was significant nonetheless.

Manchester City's Kevin De Bruyne struck home a thunderbolt against his old team that gave Manchester City the huge win. Chelsea set up as if they wanted to take the point from the onset of the game, packing the centre of midfield with Bakayoko, Kante and Fabregas and hoping to use Hazard and Morata on the counter. That game plan failed to materialise as Chelsea only managed four shots through the entire game compared to Man City’s 17. To add insult to literal injury, Alvaro Morata was substituted on the 35th minute with what looked like a hamstring injury. The Spaniard has started the season in fine form bagging six goals already this campaign. The result keeps City top the table with 19 points from seven games and Chelsea stay in the top four on 13 points.

In the early kick off, Tottenham put Huddersfield to the sword and demolished them at the Kirklees Stadium. Harry Kane continued his fine September form by bagging his 20th and 21st away goals in his last 10 away games. Tottenham were scintillating throughout the course of the whole game and Huddersfield couldn’t keep up with their one touch pass and move play. Ben Davies got in on the action with a lovely chipped finish and Moussa Sissoko grabbed his first goal for Tottenham in stoppage time to put the gloss on the game.

At Old Trafford, Manchester United steamrolled Crystal Palace as their phenomenal start to the season continued. Palace’s game plan flew straight out of the window as Juan Mata netted the opener on the 3rd minute from a Marcus Rashford assist. From then on, the floodgates opened. Marouane Fellaini, filling in for the injured Paul Pogba, bagged himself a brace and Romelu Lukaku continued his fine goal scoring form by adding the fourth goal in the 86th minute. For Crystal Palace, they are still without a point and a goal and are rooted to the bottom of the table.

Elsewhere in the league, Bournemouth and Leicester played out a stalemate and shared the points. West Brom and Watford saw an eventful 2-2 draw at the Hawthorns, Stoke picked up a 2-1 win over Southampton and West Ham picked up a crucial 1-0 win over Swansea thanks to a late winner from Diafra Sakho.

In the Sunday fixtures, Arsenal eased past Brighton by picking up a 2-0 courtesy of goals from Nacho Monreal and Alex Iwobi. Since the Liverpool debacle, that is six wins from seven games in all competitions for the Gunners, only conceding three goals in the process.

Everton continued their mediocre start to the season by succumbing to a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Burnley. The result moved Burnley all the way up to 6th in the table with 12 points from their opening seven games. Meanwhile Everton, their poor start to the season continues after this defeat at Goodison. They currently sit 16th in the table with seven points from seven games.

Lastly, Liverpool’s defensive woes reared their ugly head yet again as they had to settle for a point at St. James’ Park. Philippe Coutinho opened up the scoring with a beautiful goal, whipping the ball into the top corner from outside the box. Joselu levelled the scoring for Newcastle as he was able to walk between the centre backs and bundle in the finish.
