It was like the Olympics had landed at Aspire Academy earlier this morning! Students of the Academy were given the rare opportunity to learn and train with some of the world’s best athletes who inspired progression and adding to skill sets.

The athletes in attendance included Olympic pole vault Champion Katerina Stefanidi, former World Champion Kim Collins from the Caribbean Island of St Kitts & Nevis and three time Olympic and World gold medallist Veronica Campbell-Brown. Hosting a Q+A with students in the Aspire Auditorium the three legends of the sport answered questions from the students on their journeys to stardom, tackling the importance of being able to overcome challenges and put in hard work.

Speaking to the students, Veronica Campbell Brown said:

“The key is to have a group of people in your life who love you, who will encourage you and who have your best interests at heart, who tell the truth, who will be harsh when they need to and who will be gentle when they need to. So you need people in your life that can push you to your destiny,”

Keeping things exciting, Olympic javelin Champion, Thomas Rohler, Kim Collins and Olympic finalist in the 5000m Andrew Butchart followed the Q&A with training clinics in throwing, sprinting and middle distance running respectively, providing tips and guidance on what it takes to succeed at the highest level. The sessions took place at the world class indoor track facility at the Aspire Dome.

Aspire Academy was founded in 2004 with the goal to develop some of the nation’s best young male Qatari athletes, whilst also providing them with high quality secondary school education. Aspire provides opportunities for talented athletes from around Qatar to train on their premises with the hope of becoming Qatar’s future sporting champions. Graduates of the Academy include Olympic Silver medallist Mutaz Barshim and Ashraf Elseif. Current student and world under 20 gold medallist Allamine Hamdi Mohamed will join Mutaz his in the high jump in the Diamond League this Friday in Doha.
