USAIN BOLT PREDICTS HIS RECORDS WILL LAST FOR TWO DECADES

Having retired from track and field a few weeks back, AP caught up with Usain Bolt who predicts his world records in the 100m and 200m will last “at least” 15 to 20 years.

Bolt who set the 100m and 200m World records in Berlin, Germany in 2009 said “I think (they’re) going to last a while. I think our era with Yohan Blake, Justin Gatlin and Asafa Powell and all these guys was the best era of athletes. If it was going to be broken, it would have been broken in this era, so I think I have at least 15 to 20 more years,” he said.

Bolt also warned youngsters not to become complacent once they progress to the senior ranks. “I’ve noticed a lot of the young athletes, as soon as they get their first contract and start making money, they really just don’t care as much anymore.

“A lot of them are satisfied with getting their first contract, going out and making their first team. If they are satisfied with that, then we’re in trouble.”

Bolt word record in the men’s 100m is 9.58 while 200m best is 19.19. Both times were done to win gold medals at the 2009 Berlin World Championships.
