One of the bodyguards for Floyd Mayweather Jr was shot and injured early Monday morning after a gunman open fire on the motorcade of the former boxer’s vehicle in Atlanta according to police.
According to the spokesman from the Atlanta Police Department Donald Hannah, the former boxer was not in the vehicle that was shot up on Monday.
The bodyguard who’s given name is Gregory LaRosa was released from hospital hours after the shooting after he was treated for a bullet wound to his leg.
It is said the SUVs (Sports Utility Vehicles) in which Mayweather’s entourage were traveling, were on their way to the hotel after attending a nightclub earlier that evening when a car pulled up alongside their vehicles and opened fire at an intersection where the bullet struck LaRosa in his lower leg.
The incident happened around 2 am Monday morning.
Hannah told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution that “At this time, it appears that this was not a random shooting and the shooter was targeting the victim's vehicle”.
The driver of the SUV took La Rosa to the hospital in Atlanta after the shooter’s car stopped following the other cars.
It is reported that Mayweather was in Atlanta promoting Showtime-televised tripleheader in Las Vegas on Saturday night.
