Former world and Olympic champion Shelly-Ann Fraser- Pryce kicked off her season with a 7.21 sec clocking over 60m, at the Queens/Grace Jackson meet held yesterday at the national stadim.

Fraser-Pryce has been defying odds and silencing critics, following her faster than normal return to form, after giving birth to her first child in late 2017 and she shows no sign of slowing down.

This being a world championship year, all eyes will be on this darling of our hearts, as she seeks to make good on her promise of her’s being the greatest comeback in the history of the sport.

Reigning Olympic champion Elaine Thompson, another of Jamaica’s dalings, also opened her season in impressive fashion, clocking 7.24 sec also over 60m.

Thompson who many believe has a lot to prove after a less than consistent showing last year due to injury, will be seeking to return to the form which saw her winning world and Olympic titles.

One thing is certain, Thompson has everyrhing that is needed to once again reach the very top, as it felt in many quarters that only Fraser-Pryce can even come close to her at her best.

Relay gold medalist Nesta Carter also returned to the track with a 6.67 sec clocking, however in a post race interview, he confessed to not being pleased with the time.

Other standout performances came from St. Jago’s Brianna Lyston, who clocked 24.75 sec, in the class 3, 200m and KC’s Akeem Cargill who set a new meet record 13.81 sec, in the class 1 boys 110m hurdles. Wayne Pinnock, also representing the boys in purple also made his presence felt with a sub 14 sec clocking in his heat, finishing second over all in 13.95 sec.

Another note worthy performance came from Rajohn Grey, also of Kingston College who stopped the clock at 13.99 sec in the class 3 boys 100mh.

All together a wonderful meet signalling what is to come for the rest of the season, for both Juniors and seniors.
