Para athletics world champion Stef Reid to compete at Glasgow indoor grand prix

World and Paralympic long jump medallist Stef Reid in rare sprint appearance and major 60m debut

Double Paralympic silver medallist and reigning world champion, Stef Reid will swap her favoured long jump runway for a first ever major appearance over 60m when the world class Müller Indoor Grand Prix heads to Glasgow on Sunday 25 February.

Ranked as the number one indoor athletics meeting in the world, the Müller Indoor Grand Prix returns to Scotland having been held in Glasgow for the first time in 2016 as the city alternates hosting with Birmingham up to 2020.

One of a host of British stars at London 2017’s World Para Athletics Championships last summer, Reid was also recently awarded a MBE for her services to athletics following what has been a glittering career thus far.

Of Scottish nationality herself owing to her Scottish father, the 33-year-old will take to the track in a rare sprint appearance in Glasgow, with competition set to be led by fellow British star Sophie Kamlish. And just before Christmas, Reid revealed on Twitter that she was working hard on her sprint starts in a hint towards her New Year plans.

Reid said: “It’s been a whirlwind 12 months – London 2017 couldn’t have gone any better for me and it was the most perfect setting to win my first world title at home with family and friends.

“2018 is a year where I intend to challenge myself in different and exciting ways, so to compete in my first ever major 60m race at the Müller Indoor Grand Prix Glasgow is the perfect way to do just that.”

On the opportunity to compete in Scotland for the first time since 2014, she added:

“I can’t believe it has been that long, but when the opportunity came up it was always going to be immediate yes to get back up to Glasgow and sample that atmosphere once again. I’m really excited for February to come around and I’m sure the crowd up there will be awesome.”
