Boxing: Amir Khan says Floyd Mayweather ‘just wants to keep his own name relevant’

There’s no doubt Floyd Mayweather was the biggest draw in boxing at his peak, and he probably still would be if he was still active.

Even though ‘Money’ is 42, big names keep calling him out and rumours of a rematch with Manny Pacquiao refuse to go away, too.

Khan was denied a fight with Mayweather countless time and the 50-0 superstar has said he simply chose more lucrative opponents.

But does Khan think Mayweather is done with the sport, really? Speaking to World Boxing News, the Bolton-native thinks the answer is yes.

“After seeing Floyd Mayweather out and about, I don’t really think he has it in him to come back into boxing,” Khan said.

“I know he’s always in the gym doing a little bit here and a little bit there, but I just don’t think he wants to fight. He’s made enough money and what does he need to prove? “I think he’s proven everything he’s wanted to do. If I was him I’d just call it day and walk away from the sport.”

“The real reason he’s getting all these names out and he’s talking about these people and spending a bit of time in the gym, is because he just wants to keep his own name relevant.”
