Boxing: Saunders vs GGG is close to happening after Saunders pulls out of fight with Martin Murray

Canelo’s promotor Oscar De La Hoya yesterday spoke of a possible fight with Daniel Jacobs as Canelo’s next option clearing the way for Golovkin and Saunders to fight it out for the WBC, WBA, WBO and IBO championship.

Golovkin who has recently been stripped for his IBF belt will look to add another belt to his stable, but has long said the WBO is the one that was missing.

If Golovkin does win the WBO belt he will then have to chase the IBF again which would complete his set and make him the undisputed champion of the division.

De La Hoya has told ESPN: ‘The Canelo train has left the station.’ Meaning there will be no Canelo vs GGG 2. After  months of negotiation and an apparent date for the fight turnt sour when Canelo was suspended for two positive drugs tests in February.

The London Stadium is a possible venue for Saunders v Golovkin and the date they are looking at is as early as August.

Frank Warren, promoter of Saunders, on Canelo vs GGG says ‘That fight could still happen. Although Billy Joe would love to fight Triple G and believes he could win.’
