UFC 226: Daniel Cormier becomes Two-Weight champion after beating Miocic

Daniel Cormier challenges Brock Lesnar after beating Miocic

Daniel ‘DC’ Cormier made history at UFC 226 on Sunday morning, after he knocked out reigning heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic to become one of the first men to hold two titles at once.

Already the proud owner of the light heavyweight belt, Cormier made the risky move to challenge fellow American Miocic in an effort to cement his legacy and move out from the shadow of his nemesis, Jon Jones.

It’s fair to say he accomplished that and then some. Media predictions before the fight fell into two columns, a grinding points victory for Cormier or a sweet knockout for the bigger Miocic.

Instead, Cormier ignored prevailing opinion and grabbed the sweet finish for himself in the first round as Miocic in a clinch left his chin exposed.

Cormier duly found it and hit it, dropping Miocic to the canvas, prompting the referee stoppage.

Afterwards, Cormier had a ball playing to the crowd, commanding the microphone and calling Brock Lesnar into the cage to challenge him, who gladly accepted.
