Tom, who has been to multiple World Championships, an Olympic and holds multiple British records opens up about his mental health, attempted suicide, his sexuality and the darkest moments in his career to date.
He talks about the effects of his family, his up-bringing, growing up gay and offers advice to other sports stars who may be scared of ‘coming-out’.
When asked about why athletes do not ‘open up’ or are taken seriously when they talk about mental health, Bosworth stated that the organisations that allow athletes the opportunity to be full time need a better process in place to deal with the competition aftermath.
Bosworth said “If that’s your full time job to make sure you deliver medals for somebody else, that’s where a conversation needs to be had”
“There needs to be some sort of leniency and understanding and support from the governing bodies and sponsors”
